Mr Wain Consultant Plastic Surgeon qualified in 2006 from the University of Manchester and finalised his surgical training across the UK in the Northwest. Mr Wain accomplished his sub-specialist fellowships in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and skin cancer reconstruction at St. Helens & Knowsley NHS Trust. He also completed his Sarcoma Reconstruction & Lower Limb Microsurgery, based at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Mr Wain was appointed as an NHS substantive Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon in Preston, at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals from 2022.

Medico-legal Experience

From 2022, Mr Wain commenced Medico-legal report writing and provides plastic surgery opinion on Personal Injury matters. As a Medico-legal Expert Witness, he provides CPR compliant medical reports in Personal Injury cases. Mr Wain has also completed the Bond Solon Excellence in Report Writing and Courtroom Skills as part of his Expert Witness training. Working within the NHS in this specialised area, Mr Wain is mindful of the impact which skin disfigurements and scarring can have on patients and their lives. Some scars may be suitable for surgical intervention, whilst certain injuries and scarring require non-surgical scar management, therefore may also be recommended in a medico-legal report.

Duties – Plastic Surgeon Expert Witness

A Plastic Surgeon Expert Witness duties comprise supplying impartial, evidence-based opinions on medical issues to assist the Court in understanding complex plastic surgery cases, such as those involving injury or cosmetic procedures. The Plastic Surgeon Expert Witness must assess the claimants’ injuries, determine causation, establish a prognosis. It is their duty to explain complex medical information to legal professionals such as Solicitors and juries. Their role involves preparing detailed Plastic Surgeon CPR Medico-reports reports, examining evidence, and potentially providing testimony in Court if required. A Plastic Surgeon Expert Witness should always remain independent and remaining within their area of expertise.

Responsibilities – Plastic Surgery Expert Witness

• Conduct Medico-legal examinations, performing medical examinations on the claimant to assess injuries sustained
• Provide Plastic Surgeon opinion and prognosis in the form of a CPR report

• Remain within plastic surgery expertise, providing opinions on matters that fall within their specialized area as a Plastic Surgeon
• Collaborate with legal teams, including Solicitors and Barristers to guide and assist them in understanding the medical aspects of injuries and the case
• Provide testimony in Court if summoned and to appear in Court to provide evidence, explain their expert opinion and potentially to be cross-examined.
• Follow an evidence-based approach, basing opinions on approved medical practice and scientific evidence
