What is the meaning of Medico-legal?
The term refers to the intersection of both medicine and law, with medical legal work playing a crucial role in protecting the rights of patients, to ensure that they receive the appropriate care and compensation.
In the cases of Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence, a Medico-Legal report is required to prove a case. An Expert Witness provides a medical examination with regards to injuries sustained and evidence must be supplied from an experienced, qualified Expert Witness, within the appropriate area of expertise.
The opinion provided by the expert must support the claim, demonstrating evidence of the alleged injury, to confirm that it was caused by the incident and verify the duration and extent of the reported symptoms. In cases where the patient has not yet made a full recovery, the expert may also recommend further treatment or an onward referral for medical investigations.
